Beginner’s Guide

Living in a share house sounds kind of interesting. But…
- “What is it actually like to live with people you don’t know?”
- “Will I still have enough private time?”
- “Do I need to bring my own furniture and appliances?”
- “Are the house rules strict?”
If you’re thinking about moving into a share house for the first time, you probably feel a mix of excitement, uncertainty, and questions.
At Couverture, our share houses offer a living arrangement where everyone shares common spaces like the living room and kitchen, while still having your own private room. You can cherish your personal time just like you would living alone, while still feeling the comforting presence and connection of others. Here, we would like to introduce you to what life is like at Couverture for those considering a share house for the first time.
01
Enjoy Your Private Room, Keep Your Personal Time
When you hear the word “share house,” you might imagine spending most of your daily life together with other people.
At Couverture, residents share spaces like the living room and kitchen, but everyone has their own private room.
These rooms generally come with a lock and are fully equipped with an air conditioner, curtains, a desk and chair, a two-door refrigerator, a bed, and a closet. Most rooms also feature indoor clothes drying equipment.
All Couverture properties are equipped with shared showers, washbasins, washing machines, and toilets with washlet bidets. Depending on the property, some rooms even come with their own private bath, shower, washbasin, or toilet.
When you want to relax by yourself, stay in your own room.
When you want to chat with someone, head to the living or dining room.
Enjoy both your own personal time and connections with others.
You can live at a distance that feels right for you.
*Facilities and specifications vary depending on the property and room.

Ready to Start Your New Life with Furnishings and Appliances Included
Starting a life in a new room usually means having to gather all your furniture and appliances from scratch.
A refrigerator, a bed, a desk, a chair, curtains, an air conditioner…
Getting each item one by one takes not only money, but also time and effort to choose and transport.
At Couverture, the private rooms come fully equipped with essential amenities, including an air conditioner, curtains, a desk and chair, a two-door refrigerator, a bed, and a closet.
The common areas are also stocked with all the furniture, appliances, and daily necessities you need for everyday living.
This makes it an ideal choice not only for those starting to live alone for the first time, but also for anyone embarking on a new chapter in a new environment, whether relocating to Tokyo or starting a new job.

03
Fully Equipped Kitchens and Living Rooms: The Perks of Sharing
Our common spaces are equipped with everything you need for daily life.
The kitchen comes with a 3-burner induction cooktop, a steam oven range, a toaster, a rice cooker, an electric kettle, a juicer, a mixer, a hot plate, and more.
Cooking utensils such as pots and pans, as well as cutlery and tableware, are also provided.
The living room features a large TV and a fully connected internet environment.
We also provide helpful appliances that make life easier, such as vacuum cleaners, irons, and futon dryers.
Furthermore, we prioritize everyday comfort with features designed for a place you live in every day, including a 24-hour ventilation system, washlet toilets, and individual shoe boxes for each resident.
“Things you might not buy for yourself, but are so handy to have.”
Being able to share these convenient amenities with others is one of the great charms of living at Couverture.

04
Every Couverture House Offers a Unique Living Experience
Not all Couverture share houses are the same.
Some houses feature rooftop terraces or balconies.
Others offer free-to-use gyms, modern Japanese-style tatami rooms, or beauty rooms.
We even have houses equipped with working rooms for Zoom meetings or quick computer tasks.
From IC card keys and lockable private mailboxes to under-bed storage, features and amenities vary from property to property.
That is why, instead of choosing solely based on the station or rent,
we recommend asking yourself: “How do I want to spend my time at home?”
and searching for a house that fits your lifestyle.
*Facilities and specifications vary by property.

05
“Share House” Doesn’t Mean “Hanging Out Together All the Time”
When people think of a share house, they might imagine eating meals together almost every day, or constantly joining in on events and parties.
However, at Couverture, we don’t pressure residents into constant socializing.
Some people enjoy spending their time alone in their private rooms.
Others enjoy a nice chat when they happen to cross paths in the common areas.
The distance between residents varies depending on the person and the house.
Our residents are primarily in their 20s and 30s, including office workers and foreign nationals from diverse backgrounds.
Being alone when you want to be alone.
Knowing there are people in the same house when you want to connect with someone.
Living at your own pace is one of the true appeals of a share house lifestyle.
*Resident demographics vary by property and season.

06
Clear Rules for a Safe and Comfortable Communal Life
Even in a share house where you can live freely, spaces like the living room and kitchen are shared by everyone.
To ensure that everyone lives comfortably and harmoniously, Couverture has established house rules.
While the exact rules vary by house,
examples include prohibitions on smoking on the premises and keeping pets. Overnight stays by friends and family are also not permitted. On the other hand, there are no curfews.
Additionally, we provide regular professional cleaning of the common areas.
The utility/common fee generally covers electricity, gas, and water bills, as well as daily consumables like toilet paper, dish soap, hand soap, and garbage bags, along with the cost of regular cleaning for common areas.
Because it’s a shared living environment, we prioritize creating a space where everyone can live with peace of mind.

07
Check the Costs Thoroughly Before Signing
When looking for a place for the first time, money is naturally one of the biggest concerns.
At Couverture, in addition to the monthly rent, there are common service fees and initial contract fees.
The common service fee generally covers utilities (electricity, gas, and water), consumable goods used in common areas, and regular cleaning fees for shared spaces.
Since terms such as rent vary by property, once you find a place you like, be sure to check “what money is needed to move in” and “what money is needed every month.”
We also provide detailed information about initial costs in our FAQs.

Found a House You Like? Schedule a Viewing!
Even if a house looks great in photos, because it’s going to be your actual home, there are things you can only truly understand by seeing it in person.
The size of the room.
The atmosphere of the common spaces.
How easy the facilities are to use.
The walk from the station to the house and the surrounding neighborhood.
At Couverture, we generally ask that you schedule a viewing before signing a contract. For those who live far away or find it difficult to visit in person, online viewings are also available.
Take a look for yourself, and find a house where you can truly feel:
“I can live here just as myself.”

It’s Your First Time, So It’s Only Natural to Have Questions
“Which house is right for me?”
“I’d like to know a bit more about this facility.”
“How much are the initial costs?”
“When can I move in?”
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us.
Our staff is here to guide you, even if it’s your first time looking for a share house.
